Beach Hunting!

Last night, we went to Kmart to buy some groceries. As it turns out, Kmart is the place to be on a Sunday night. It was packed. There were little kids running around everywhere and everyone was taking there time walking through the aisles. The best part of that experience, however, was that there was a Little Caesar's inside. They had signs that said "Hot'n'Ready" but it wasn't as "ready" as it is at home. It was $10 (instead of $5 at home) and we had to wait about 15 minutes. It was worth it though.
This morning we woke up at 5 and couldn't fall back asleep. We went to McDonald's for breakfast and ate it on the beach. Then we decided to drive around, explore, and find more beaches. Here are some pictures. We took a video too, but we're having trouble uploading it.

Also while we were exploring, we found, what we call, "The Strip". Basically, it consists of restaurants and stores. Some of the restaurants we saw were: Hooters, Planet Hollywood, Burger King, Hard Rock, Friday's, Outback, Lonestar, McDonald's, and Taco Bell.

We went exploring and found a little cove with huge rocks.

When you drive down the road, there are signs every few blocks that say "Public Beach Access". If you follow those signs, there is usually an area to park on the side of the road and then there's a path that leads to the beach. While we were walking from the car to one of the beaches, we saw a zoo!

To get to Flores Beach (one of the main beaches), you have to drive down the side of a cliff on a very curvy road. When you begin to head down, you can see the tourist/resort area of the island. This area is called Tumon Bay.

We're not really sure what this is supposed to be, but we saw it while we were walking to Flores Beach. I thought it was cute, so I took a picture.

This picture was actually taken last night when we went to Kmart. There were 3 of these signs in the parking lot. Apparently, parking on the roof is a very common thing here.

Right now we're in our hotel room eating Taco Bell. It cost us $14.62 to buy the same meal we would have gotten at home for $6-$7!!!! Everything is expensive here. Gas is $4.08 for premium, cigarettes are $6.50/pack, and the milk was $2.99 for a quart. We're gonna go to the beach after lunch. We will update with pictures later.

Hafa Adai!

Hafa Adai! (that's how you say hello here)

Our plane landed in Guam at 12:30 am on the 25th. Right now it's 4:13 am but despite the time, neither of us are very tired! All three flights went fairly smooth and both of our layovers seemed to go pretty fast. We checked into the hotel without any problems and now we are just sitting in the hotel room about to watch a movie.

Just thought I'd let everyone know that we're here safe and sound.

I will post a few pictures of our journey to Guam sometime tomorrow.

Travel Update

Hey guys!
Okay, so we were up at the base today finalizing our plans and filling out (hopefully the last of the) paperwork and found out an update about our departure. Instead of driving to St. Louis on Wednesday and leaving on Thursday, we will be driving down to St. Louis on Thursday and flying out on Friday. At noon on Friday, we will get on a plane headed towards Minneapolis. After a two hour layover, we will be flying to Narita (it's in Tokyo). Hopefully while we're in Japan we will get to see Micah's friend Steve who is stationed at the Naval Base over there. Finally, we will fly from Japan to Guam. Our last flight is scheduled to arrive in Guam at 11:50 pm on Saturday, the 24th. It's going to be a long couple of days (almost 36 hours of traveling) but we're both very excited. We are planning to use the extra day to relax and double check that we have everything ready.

Well, that's it for now. Perhaps the next post will be put up while we're sitting in the airport, or maybe even when we get to Guam!

Hey guys! I downloaded skype on my laptop last night so now we can stay in touch. I have both a headset and a webcam. Feel free to add us! (We only have one skype account) donna.micah

We leave in 4 days and our "laundry" list of things to do before we leave is getting shorter every day! The only thing we really have to do is pack, which I conveniently saved for last. I need to learn to stop procrastinating.

13 Days!

Hello all! Welcome to the blog where I will be posting updates about our 3 year vacation to Guam. First of all, I'll explain why we're going to Guam. Micah received his orders in August of 2009. His orders said that he would be heading home to Chicago in January for his "C" school (where he would learn how to non-destructivly test welds). Then in July he would be transfered to the Naval Base in Guam. He asked me if I would go with him and after a few months of weighing out the pro's and con's of moving, I decided that I would join him. So anyway, that's how we got to where we are today. In 13 days (July 21st) we'll be on the road to St. Louis to drop off his car at the place that will ship it to Guam. Then we will be spending the night there and sometime on the 22nd we will be getting on a plane to go to Guam.

Time has gone by really fast. It's hard to believe that we leave in less than two weeks and yet we still have a TON of things to do! However, we're both taking a break tonight to watch a movie and hang out with my mom and Snickers. I'll try to update as often as possible once we reach Guam but until then, I can't promise that there will be anything exciting enough to post.
